A Welcoming Message from the Health Office at Cranston-Johnston Catholic Regional School
Dear Parents,
We are proud of the fact that at CJCR, we are always striving to maintain a healthy school community physically, emotionally and spiritually. We are one of the few schools in our area that employs a full-time Registered Nurse on duty daily. Our Health Office is located near the Main Office of the school, and is fully equipped with first aid supplies, a recovery area and an automatic emergency defibrillator (AED). We recognize the importance of having this device available and having our staff trained in its use in the event of an emergency.
We acknowledge the existence of many student allergies and maintain peanut-free classrooms. Our staff is trained annually in the administration of Epi-pens, under the direction of the school nurse. The secure medication cabinet is located in the Health Office and made available for the storage of inhalers, devices or other medications your child may require during the school day.
In addition to offering first aid care to our students and faculty, we conduct several health screenings per year. These include vision, hearing, and dental screenings, scoliosis screenings, physical examinations as necessary by the City Of Cranston’s appointed pediatrician among other valuable heath services.
The Health Office yearly sponsors several events that demonstrate community responsibility and health awareness. We are proud to sponsor successful blood drives on campus at which our Middle School students provide refreshments for donors. One of the most exciting events that the Health Office coordinates is our annual Healthy Hearts Month. This takes place during the month of March, and has as its focus the promotion of heart-healthy lifestyle choices, both for our students, our faculty and staff, and our community at large. During this month, there are many local speakers and athletes invited to speak with our students. In the past, CJCR has welcomed noted chefs, physicians, aerobics instructors as well as various athletic experts from venues such as kick-boxing, fencing, martial arts, ballet, soccer, just to name a few!
As you can see, our goal is to provide your child with a lifelong desire to develop healthy lifestyle choices, to become aware of the need to help others, and to realize that success in achieving these objectives can help improve the education of each child. The Health Office at Cranston-Johnston Catholic Regional School is here to serve you. Please do not hesitate to contact me directly as necessary.
We welcome the opportunity to become a part of your child’s future.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Marie Habershaw, R.N.
