COMPREHENSIVE SPANISH PROGRAM

Cranston-Johnston Catholic Regional School provides its students from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 8 with a comprehensive, sequential program in Spanish language and culture.

Program goals include development of an appreciation for the Spanish language, its roots in Spanish and Latino culture and unique qualities of Spanish-speaking countries. As w ell, the program succeeds in laying a foundation for continued study of Spanish in high school.

Students are required to write dialogues that are essential in developing language skills, memorization and spoken language.  From early grades, students learn to ask basic questions, give directions and engage in simple socialization tasks.

After completing the middle school Spanish program, students are expected to possess excellent oral and writing comprehension skills.  They will be able to use these skills in communicating with Spanish-speaking people. The middle school course provides a superior foundation for continued studies in Spanish at the high school level and beyond.

In addition to the regimen of daily class language instruction, students will engage in cultural studies that include Spain, Central America, Caribbean Islands and South America. Mexican holidays are used as a focus for cultural study.

Parents play an important role in encouraging students to speak the language as often as possible in order to practice and perfect their children’s oral skills.
